Notes:
Physical distance does not play any role
- electronic mail is not sensitive to time zone problems like the phone is
- e-mail is there in 10-30 seconds
- real time “chat” on IRC (Internet Relay Chat), the use of audio or video conferencing or internet telephony is widespread. Especially lions like the IRC chat.
During the Finnish lions annual convention in Pori this year we had a LionNet booth where about 1000 people visited during the day and where I was able to demonstrate real time chat on the net. At midnight the Finnish MD-CC was watching while two Finns, three Canadians, one Australian and one Fiji lion were discussing the happenings of the day and their whereabouts
The LionNet International Administrators group is a good example about how the electronic mail can speed up communication and make it possible for a truly international working group to do active daily work together. We have one Finn, one Canadian, one from USA, one Swiss, one Belgian and one Tasmanian. Each day up to 25 letters are written. Often the same letter is answered and returned 4 times a day. It is really effective work that takes 3-4 hours a day. At most a LionNet Int Adm member may get up to 200 e-mail letters a day. 70-80 is quite usual.
