Organized use of the Internet
Notes:
My name is Ilkka Siissalo. May I introduce myself shortly.
Currently I work as head of Internet and VOS system production of Telecom Finland, which is the biggest commercial Internet Service Provider in Finland.
My background is in being a researcher (biochemist), after which I’ve been responsible for the computer facilities of two research institutes, Technology Center of Cultor Ltd. And Alko Ltd. Research Laboratories. Later I was manager of laboratory services at Alko Ltd and for the last two years manager of network services at CSC - Center for Scientific Computing, the ministry of education owned national supercomputing center and Finnish University and Research Network FUNET’s operator. I’ve been highly involved with the Internet since early 1991, at which time my group connected Alko Ltd.’s laboratories to the Internet among the very first commercial companies in Finland. In December last year I was invited to become production manager of Telecom Finland, the biggest commercial ISP in Finland.
In January 1995 I was only the fifth lions member in the world to publish lions related material on the Internet, an event which led later to the establishing of what is today called LionNet Finland, the national Internet service site of Lions MD 107. I am co-founder on the international LionNet and today LionNet International’s Administrator for Europe, Middle East and Africa
