Every May, the Youth-Delegate Chairpersons meet to compare notes and chart the year ahead for the Lions Youth Exchange. Zurich hosted the 2024 gathering, and the hand-over to Spain was celebrated later that year at the Europe Forum in Bordeaux.

Twelve delegates—from Spain, Italy, Türkiye, the United States, Poland, and Switzerland—came together in Elche. The Lions Club of Elche threw open its doors for an informal get-together that set the tone for the week: genuine hospitality, lively conversation, and a first-hand look at both the local National Convention and the many service projects Spanish Lions are running.

Day one began with a hands-on workshop, “Building High-Performance Teams,” led by Abanico Formativo and based on the LEGO® Serious Play method, a favourite of global companies. Several exchange students headed for India, the U.S., Italy, and Switzerland joined us, and the session crackled with energy, reminding us how much passion Youth-Exchange delegates pour into their roles.

Today’s teenagers live on social platforms yet often overlook the finer points—and pitfalls—of online interaction. In my seminar, “Social Media for YE Camps”, we explored both sides of the coin; the slide deck is now available for every camp so participants can make the most of digital tools while staying safe.

During the lively conversations that accompanied our very good dinners and lunches, we exchanged ideas, strengthened communication among ourselves, and learned from the rich experience of the other countries. A big, heartfelt thank-you goes out to Spain for the flawless organisation of the two seminar days and for arranging the inspiring meetings with the Lions in Elche and the enthusiastic young people.

Before we boarded the plane home, we enjoyed a wonderful tour of the picturesque Lions Camp Mar Mediterráneo in Elche, where we saw both the well-equipped facilities for the youngsters’ activities and the cosy log-cabin accommodations. I am genuinely happy for the Swiss teenagers who will soon have the chance to gain unforgettable experiences in this Spanish camp.

The next International Staff Meeting is slated for 2026 in Antalya, Türkiye. We’re already counting the days until we gather again, trade stories, and keep the Lions Youth Exchange moving forward.
