Earthquakes in Turkey and Syria
A severe earthquake and other strong aftershocks have shaken Turkey and Syria. More than 11,000 people were killed and countless were injured. It was one of the strongest quakes in the region in more than 100 years and destroyed entire communities.
Lions and Leos are trying to reach out to their contacts in the affected areas. Based on their own direct contacts in the affected region, various clubs are coordinating direct aid. For example, since yesterday a truck from Istanbul filled with water, blankets, baby food and tents is on its way to the disaster area.

Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) is also already in action and has mobilized funds, including a major disaster grant of US$200,000, to enable Lions in Turkey and other affected areas to help with reconstruction efforts.
